Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How many reels can fit on a dvd?
  A: You can fit approx 1800ft of film on a 2hr dvd: 3inch x 35 5inch x 8 6inch x 6 7inch x 4
 Q: Do you combine shipping?
A: Yes we do! If you search our eBay store, you will see listings based on sizes & quantities also to save on shipping!
Q: I don't know what is on my film?
A: You will need to get your film transferred to a digital format to view & edit a computer. Software is very inexpensive and easy to use! Buying a projector / viewer / film editor will cost you time & money and anything gained from using these older forms of viewing can take an immense amount of time and a good chance of damaging your film.
Q: Can I get my films transferred to an .avi file for editing?
A: Yes! If you supply us with an external hard drive we can transfer your movies frame by frame to uncompressed .avi files. ( frame by frame transfers are separate listings & cost on average 30% more over real time transfer to dvd )
Q: Do you clean the film?
A: We do clean film on our premium frame by frame transfers.
Q: Can I edit the DVD's on your real time process?
A: You can edit from the DVD's. Importing from any up to date PC editing software such as Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 or higher, Pinnacle Studio versions 10 or higher. If you are using a mac, you will have to render to quicktime or mpeg4 first using software such as open shiiva ( free ). For mac's, highly recommend frame by frame to .avi.
Q: My film is 70 years old, is it any good?
A: Celluloid film is a great media! As long as it has been stored in temperate climates, low moisture, it will be fine. If your film has issues, you will smell it first, a potent vinegar smell. Even though your film smells, it can still be transferred. Bad film will curl in on itself and if you try to bend it back, it will crumble like a dry leaf.
Q: Are you sure my film will be okay to transfer?...it breaks in the projector.
A: If your film keeps breaking in the projector, it's not your film, it's the projector that's not calibrated properly. Discontinue the use of your projector immediately. Do not risk ruining any more of your film.
Q: Do you cut out any 'bad spots'
A: We try out best to omit blank or bad spots in your movies, but can not guarantee everything! On frame by frame, the entire contents of the reel will be transferred.
Q: Can I take stills of some frames and get prints?
A: Yes you certainly can!! You will need editing software to do so, but it's real easy and with our frame by frame transfers, you can print an okay'ish 8x11 !
Q: I am nervous about shipping my films, is there a chance they can be lost?
A: Your concern is extremely valid, nothing is 100%, but you can take measures to eliminate chance. We recommend shipping UPS or FEDEX. We solely use FEDEX. Fully tracked, email notifications. Although we have not had a lost package since we opened our doors 6yrs ago, it's best to take all measures possible to secure a safe transit.
Q: Once I have my movies transferred, how do I upload them onto the internet?
A: We recommend using for the PC, Adobe Premiere Elements 4.0 or for the MAC, imovie 08. Clips are limited to 10mins in length, but these programs do the file crunching & formatting needed for it to be accepted by youtube. The youtube feature is built into the program itself, once uploaded, it gives you a link to the video, it's very easy!
Q: How do I figure out what size films I have? What if they are not full?
A: Films come in various size diameter, meaning measure across the reel. Some descriptions in easy context: 3inch 50ft = fit's in the palm of your hand. 5inch 200ft = exact diameter of a CD or DVD 6inch 300ft = an inch wider than a CD or DVD 7inch 400ft = the size of a salad plate. We prorate reels that are not entirely full
Q: My little yellow boxes say 25ft, you don't have a listing for 25ft.
A: If you look closely, you will see, 25ft double roll. Back in the day, your films came double the width they are now. You would record on one side, then flip over to the other, when developed, the film was split down the middle and joined together to make 50ft.
Q: How long does this process take to turn around?
A: Our typical turnaround times are 7 - 21 days from receipt, dependant on the size of your order & the time of year.
