All coated breeds should be brushed thoroughly with the appropriate brush before combing. The comb is used to "test" what you have brushed...by inserting the comb into the coat parallel against the skin. (Image to left) This will allow you to find tangles, matting or clumps of undercoat. A comb is also used for fluffing in preparation for scissoring. As Annie's beautifully groomed headpiece shows. (Image to right) The correct comb is based on your dog's coat type. Choose your dog's Coat Type. Together, with regular use, the correct Brush and comb will keep your furry friend mat and tangle free while looking and feeling his or her best!
