The Bob and Alice Story:
Some say people like to hear a story, so here's a story to read about some of the items we have for sale:
Bob is 72 and Alice is 69 years old. About 8 years ago, Alice was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is an autoimmune disorder. It causes pain and in many cases is quite debilitating. Unable to retire, Alice and Bob continued to work full time as property managers at a self storage facility. In the course of their work they would be required to mow the grass, move furniture, lift heavy objects, manage the rental office, and be on call 24 hours a day. As Alice's health declined, she became no longer able to work, leaving the burden of their two person job to Bob - whose' health was also in decline. Bob has arthritis. He also eventually became unable to perform the required duties necessary to his job. Finally, Bob and Alice were forced to quit their jobs. Bob moved Alice to a very modest house near a lake, in hopes that the peaceful surroundings would help her daily struggle with pain. Bob was able to get a desperately needed job. Alice's medical care and their living expenses far exceeded their Social Security income. After 3 years the company that Bob worked for was sold and Bob was out of a job at 70. At this point Alice needed care and Bob felt he needed to stay home to care for Alice. They have been married 53 years, and Bob has been a devoted caring husband. Through these last few tumultuous years, Bob had back surgery. Bob and Alice attend doctors appointments frequently. They can no longer make ends meet financially. Some of their prescriptions are several thousand dollars a month. They put their house on the market not knowing where they would go if it sold. But in this real estate recession and economic downturn, they will be unable to sell any time soon.
You may be asking yourself, what kind of family would allow this to happen to their loved ones? Well, one family member is making sizable contributions to Bob and Alice's expenses. Bob and Alice have always been hard workers. They are not prideful, but are proud and want to take care of themselves. They have some heirlooms that were handed down to them by their grandparents - all of whom were immigrants to the U.S. from Norway, Sweden and Germany. Some fought in US wars.
Many people have heirlooms in their family - keepsakes and memories to remind them of a special event, people they love, travels, etc. Bob and Alice want to sell some of their family heirlooms to help pay their way in life. Far be it from any of us to deny them that right. The item you are considering buying belongs to Bob and Alice. Their real life story is true, although their names have been changed in this story.
