| Star notes are used by the BEP (Bureau of Engraving and Printing) to replace misprinted/damaged currency before it goes into circulation. These replacement notes are printed just like normal notes, except there is a star printed in the serial number. On Federal Reserve Notes, the star is where the block letter normally is (the last letter of the serial number). |
Because very few Currency notes are printed With a star at the end of the serial it makes them harder to find. Take a look in your wallet, do you have one? Since all United States currency has a unique serial number there is a finite amount of these bills available. This being the case collectors will strive to obtain as many star notes as they can possibly find, because these notes increase in value percentage wise better than any other legal investment. |
