AmperorDirect VoIP Skype Solution
The Atcom AU-100 Skype Internet Phone provides an entry level communication solution without the expensive bells and whistles.
[Note: This unit works with other VoIP services as well -- see below]
- Latest Skype Software
- Latest ATCOM Dialer and Software from ATCOM's site.
- It is recommended to uninstall any existing dialer software before updating the Skype program, and then re-install the latest dialer software again after the latest Skype version is in place. This ensures that there are no unexpected surprises with each software looking for parts of the other that had been there, but aren’t any more.

Echo123 test – Checking AU-100 in Windows XP
Using the built-in audio device test method in Windows, echo123, is one method to use to check if your AU-100 VoIP USB Phone is working properly.
Testing Instructions
- Make sure the AU-100 is connected to the computer through a USB port or a USB hub (preferably powered.) Disconnect all other USB audio devices; such as an external USB sound card or other USB phones.
- Click on Start at the bottom left-hand side of the screen.
- Click on Control Panel.
- Double-click on Sounds, Speech, and audio devices.
- Double-click on Sounds and Audio Devices.
- Make sure the mute box is unchecked then click on the voice tab.
- Change both the voice playback and the voice-recording device to “Generic USB Audio Device.” Click on Test Hardware then click Next for the Sound Hardware Test Wizard.
- Windows will begin testing of your sound device. Wait until the blue status bar reaches the end on the right-hand side, then the Microphone Test window will appear. Follow the on-screen instructions and begin talking into your AU-100 VoIP USB Phone. You should see the green volume bar rising and falling in the recording section as you speak. If the green bar does not appear or move, there is something wrong with your recording settings. (Refer to the AU-100 Troubleshooting Guide.) Click Next.
- In the Speaker Test window, you should see the instructions to test the speaker. Start by talking into your AU-100 VoIP USB Phone where you can see the green recording bar move up and down. After a short delay you should see the green playback bar begin to move up and down as well as hear what you spoke being played back through the phone’s speaker. If you do not see the green playback bar or hear what you said, your speaker setting is set incorrectly. Refer to the AU-100 Troubleshooting Guide.
- Click Next and then click Finish

Note: Some spyware/adware detection software may report this software to be Dialer.IntexusDial or just IntexusDial which can connect to the internet or another computer without the user's permission. The dialing software performs a similar function to this potential threat, but the user does have control as to when it runs, and its function is limited to connecting to the VoIP software you use to chat over the internet. To date, we here at AmperorDirect.com have not found this software to be a security threat.
The latest, official dialer program from the manufacturer of the AU-100 VoIP phone is available here. It is designed for many different VoIP programs, such as: Skype, Vonage soft phone, Net2Phone, X-Ten, StanaPhone, SJPhone, MSN Mesenger, AOL Instant Messenger, Firefly and eyeBeam. It also has the widest compatibility.
For the Windows Skype user, there is a dialer program developed by a third-party which is designed especially for you – the end user - which can be found here. After installing the program, AmperorDirect’s Testing team found that it has the best keypad response, and allows you to use a louder ring tone – which is covered in another topic.
If you have an AU-100 VoIP Skype USB phone, and you are using a Microsoft Windows operating system, you’ll really want to try out this alternate dialer program.
NOTE: Recently we have discovered that some systems return an error on running the installation of:
SkypeAu100Setup .NET framework exe '\\wah.onterra.net\files\dotnetfx.exe' could not be located. Setup will now exit.
We wish to thank Malcolm Charles who reported to us that to avoid this issue, ensure that .net framework 1.1 (no other version) is installed on the PC. Once it is, the installation should complete without further problems.
“The phone is lightweight, compact/easy to use, and the fact that you can dial out is an added benefit! The only thing I wish to have is a louder ring tone.”
Yes, AmperorDirect’s support team understands what you need. You want to hear the ring tone when you are further away from your computer than two feet, so that you won’t miss your important Skype calls.
One big reason why the Skype and AU-100 manufacturers are hesitant to allow a louder ring tone volume is that you can still hear the incoming ring when you are already on a Skype call. For most people it's not very comfortable having the ringing source right in your ear, especially when it’s a loud ring.
However, if you have limited contacts and a low chance of getting another Skype call when you are already on the phone, you can follow the steps below to increase the ring tone volume. (We’ll tell you how, but it’s up to you to make the change. AmperorDirect won’t be responsible for any harm done to your hearing due to the changes made.)
- Download the ring tone wave files.. There are four ringtones, each with a different volume level. 0 is the default Windows setting, while 10 has the loudest ring tone (without blowing out our speakers.)
- Open the Skype program, and click on Options under the Tools tab.
- At the Skype options window, left-click on Sounds.
- Make sure the “ringtone” box is clicked. Left-click on the folder icon for the ringtone.
- Left-click on the browse button.
- Find the folder you downloaded the ringtone to; left-click on the file you want to use.
- You will see the ringtone you chose displayed on the screen. Click OK.
- You can left-click on the arrow button for the ringtone to sample the new ring tone. Left-click on the Save button to save the setting.
