Grading Standard: While there is no international standard for grading vintage advertisements, standards that apply to magazines, books an comics provide guidelines. We have condensed the 12-14 categories used by dealers to four:
Fine: Almost perfect in every way. This ad would appear the way it did the day it appeared on the newstand. No tears, rips, stains, flaws. Perfectly centered this ad is pristine.
Very good: Nearly perfect with minor imperfections such as impact crease, invisible stress or light color flecks. Item is flat with little or no surface wear and only subtle printing defects.
Good: Above average item that has some surface wear, pages may be tanning but are still supple. Ad may show some stress or impact but no rips, stains, tears or odor.
Fair: Average item that may show minor foxing, any rips, stains tears or odor are thoroughly described. |
