ANT-Antiqued, Antiqued Finish: A finish applied for the purpose of giving the piece an aged appearance.
Baguette-Small gems cut in the form of narrow rectangles or tapered trapezoids.
Bail-The suspension loop on a pendant, locket, etc.
Bangle- A bracelet which is not flexible.
Bezel Set-The gem is above the surface of the jewelry and a thin strip of metal is placed around the whole edge of the gemstone. Then it is folded over the gem to hold it in place.
CAB-Cabochon: A round or oval stone cut and polished with one flat side (the back) and one smooth domed side (the front or face).
Channel Set-Rows of gems secured by metal flanges, with no claws or beads used.
DC-Diamond Cut: Diamond cut finishing is an effect used to give metal items a flashy appearance. Manufacturers use lasers, or diamond wheel cutting, to cut tiny wedges out of the surface of an item. These cut surfaces are highly reflective and catch the light with even the slightest turn.
Emerald Cut-A rectangular step-cut or trap-cut with 45-degree corner angles.
Heshi,Heishi: A Pueblo term literally meaning shell; discs or tubes with a hole in the center, usually of turquoise, coral, shell, or other materials, strung together to form a flexible strand, often of graduated size.
Inlay-To set in a surface to form a decoration. The process of decorating by inserting shaped pieces of material (not enamel) into the surface or ground of an abject so that the surfaces of both are level.
LS-Liquid silver: The term given to strands of small silver beads which were made by carefully slicing tubes of sterling silver into 1/8" pieces and stringing them together. A form of Heishi.
Pave setting-Front or surface of ornament is covered with stones held in position by bead-set. I.e.: setting of closely matched and evenly set stones.
RP-Rhodium-Plated: Rhodium is a member of the platinum metals group. Rhodium is utilized to plate metals that are easily tarnished such as sterling silver. Surfaces that utilize rhodium plating remain scratch resistant, bright and attractive for years.
SS-Sterling Silver: An alloy composed of at least or 92.5% silver and no more than 7.5% copper. This means that 925 parts of every 1000 parts are pure silver. The copper is added to the mix to make items made from silver strong because without the copper content the silver is relatively soft. Silver is valued for its strength and bright shiny characteristics. Sterling silver is becoming one of the most popular metals in the jewelry industry. Most people that have allergic reactions to some metals are able to wear sterling silver.
Synthetic-A man-made material with essentially the same optic, chemical and physical properties as its natural counterpart.
