This magazine featured Marilyn Monroe's first cover, and her first paid product endorsement. Within a year she had appeared on 33 national magazine covers, among them Playboy magazine.
According to Monroe collector Clark Kidder:
"...the Playboy is fairly easy to find, but Monroe's first magazine cover, according to Kidder, was the January 1946 issue of Douglas Airview, an in-house magazine for the Douglas airplane manufacturing company. Here Monroe and three other models pose as two couples, old and young, enjoying the spacious interior of the new DC-6 airplane. Monroe is already showing an early version of that famous smile, but she's conservatively dressed, and, oddly enough, mostly hidden behind her seat mate, a large slick-haired fellow with an ill-fitting striped suit. Though the photo doesn't serve the model well, this magazine recently brought $2,100 in an on-line auction."
According to an August 2006 Mountain States Collector review of Kidder's Monroe collectibles guidebook: "Many magazines pictured Monroe on their covers. Her first appearance on a magazine cover was for the January 1946 issue of Douglas Airview..."
