WHERE THE ADAPTER ATTACHES TO YOUR PHONE

YOUR ANTENNA ADAPTER ATTACHES DIRECTLY TO YOUR PHONE IN ONE OF THESE PLACES:

FOR MOST PHONES JUST REMOVE THE ROUND RUBBER PLUG ON THE BACK OF THE PHONE, NEAR IT'S ANTENNA, IF IT HAS ONE AND PLUG THE 90 DEGREE END OF THE ADAPTER THERE. IT IS USUALLY A "SNUG" FIT AND BE SURE TO PUSH IT ALL OF THE WAY DOWN.

OTHER PHONES MAY HAVE AN ADAPTER END THAT PLUGS INTO A CHARGER PORT.

SOME PHONES USE AN ADAPTER THAT IS IN THE FORM OF AN "O" RING THAT SLIPS OVER THE PHONE'S ANTENNA - AGAIN, PUSH IT ALL THE WAY DOWN.

OTHERS USE A "HOLSTER" TYPE ADAPTER THAT SNAPS OVER THE TOP, OR A "BACK PLATE" TYPE ADAPTER THAT FITS ON THE REAR OF THE PHONE.

WITH THE LAST TWO EXAMPLES, YOU WILL NOT SEE AN INDICATOR INCREASE UNTIL YOU MAKE THE CALL IN SOME EXTREMELY WEAK AREAS, THE ONLY INDICATOR THAT YOU WILL HAVE THAT IT IS WORKING IS THAT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE CLEAR CALLS WHERE YOU PREVIOUSLY COULDN'T.

If you can get a signal in your yard, or even down the road a bit but can't in your home, it will solve that problem. If you are sick and tired of dropping calls in your vehicle, it will certainly solve that problem, too. But cell phones and towers operate on a "line-of-sight" basis. The antenna has to have a clear path in which to "see" the signal it's going to reach out and grab. If a barrier like a mountain, is blocking the line of sight between your cell phone and the tower, they can't "see" each other. But if that were the case, you couldn't talk in your yard, could you?

This also means that it may work one window, but not in another. You may have to try more than one window. It might have to placed higher up in a window, or it might even have to be placed outside to give you a clear loud signal.

If you are willing to experiment a bit, if the BLACKCAT! doesn't work well in the first place you put it, we feel extremely sure that you will be very happy with it. But we can't guarantee that an antenna will work in one certain place, especially if we have no experience with that location.

The BLACKCAT! magnetic mount antenna was meant to give its best performance mounted on metal. But, it is so powerful that most people get great results just setting it on a window sill.

However, you may need to set it on a piece of metal (except aluminum) like a cookie tin or a flat piece of steel or iron, that you can pick up at the local hardware store.

Some people who have the line of sight blocked when they go inside, may have to mount it outside.

Although it more than doubles our shipping time, we open each antenna and adapter, we connect and then test them. So we know, that you are receiving a good working antenna and adapter.

But as good as it is, it is just an antenna and can't create it's own signals. It, like all antennas, has its limitations.

PLEASE DON'T BUY IT IF YOU EXPECT IT TO:

1. *Go miles and miles to reach a signal.

2. Cut through a mountain, hill or forest.

3. Cut through a wood or metal wall.

4. Work on a coffee table in the middle of your den.

*It will reach longer distances if mounted high enough - remember "line of sight".

We have been selling the same BLACKCAT! antenna for approximately three years and they have basically been defect free. Therefore, we may choose to send a replacement antenna in the event that is defective, before refunding the purchase price.

How Do Antennas Work

ANTENNAS ARE ENGINEERED AND RATED BY THEIR "GAIN"
Antennas are measured by their GAIN, or increase of equivalent power. There is nothing magical or mystical about them - no guesswork involved in their manufacture. They are engineered to receive and transmit at certain "GAINS", over certain frequencies. Analog has it’s own frequency range, PCS operates on another. Commercial radio stations each operate on their very own specific signal - like 98.7 is a station’s specific frequency.

It seems that we have been mislead about the capability of our cell phones for so long and by so many sources, that it is difficult to believe that they will ever be anything more than a bitter-sweet. It is a fact, however, that their operation can be greatly improved, that you can, in most cases, have clear, uninterrupted conversations inside your home, office, barn, car, truck, etc.

Those reporters talking to us on a "SAT" phone from Iraq used a portable antenna to start a process that, by being relayed from antenna to antenna, got to your living room seven seconds later. Properly engineered antennas work.

COMPARING ANTENNAS
The Unity antenna that you see advertised with the term "Maximum Reception" has a GAIN OF ZERO. That’s right, it has no gain, but it does help just a little bit because it is outside, on your vehicle and your phone is a little more limited when it is inside.

A 3db GAIN antenna doubles your equivalent power, to 1.2 watts. A 6 db GAIN antenna doubles it again, to 2 watts.

The formula continues........a 9db GAIN doubles the equivalent power one more time over the 6 db GAIN antenna but you have to go to an 18 db GAIN antenna to double the equivalent power again, to 8 watts.

But some people give out GAIN examples as dbi’s instead if db’s. Dbi’s equate to about 75% of the GAIN of db’s, so 12 dbi’s equal only 9 db’s. Don’t asked me why, I haven’t gotten that far in the book, yet!
