Jackall lures first became available in North America in 2007, but the company. its founder and chief lure designer, Seiji Kato have been highly-respected by bass anglers in Japan for many years.
Kato's legacy in bass lure development begins in 1983 when he landed a job at Daiwa right after Kato graduated college. By 1988, Kato was designing fishing lures for Daiwa where Kato says he developed the whole TD (Team Daiwa) line of lures at that time, best known for the legendary TD Minnow jerkbait. In 1993, Kato left Daiwa to work for fledgling company Lucky Craft where Kato says he designed the Bevy Shad, Flash Minnow and the two most famous of all Lucky Craft lures in the USA - the Pointer and the Sammy. In 1999, Kato founded Jackall with Ty Ono, a top pro tournament angler in Japan.
In 2007, Jackall decided to introduce the "best of the best" of its product line to North America, and Ty Ono has hand-picked Jackall's very best models and colors for the company's North American market. There are some real gems in Jackall's North American product line - and many of the models are not very well known yet, just waiting to be discovered by North American anglers.
