Labess! (hello) In the early nineties years I traveled into and around Morocco on a regular basis. I bargained my way to Safi for pottery, to the fragrant Thuya wood scented ocean town of Essouira on the Atlantic coast, to the edge of the Sahara through Ouarzazatte, Zagora, and Tagounite for fossils, carpets, and jewlery, through the snow slick Atlas mountains trading with the native Berbers and Arabs in stone sheds buying mineral specimens and jewelery, from the bustle and mixed modernity of Cassablanca and some genuine manufacturing facilities, to the south and Marrakech where I found my best friends and the widlest traders buying and selling every known handicraft of Morocco. I still have a lot of wonderful memories and boxes of things I should have sold long ago but other interests called. Now: I am selling. These items are pre Desert Storm. I bargained through the soulks never seeing another western face and never felt a threat. Today, less traders ply the Arab markets and twisted lanes of the old cities where Africa meets Europe and deals are to be made under dusty rich air and African skies. You like? Let's talk.
