| | | BEAR BAY WEAVERS is a family of basket makers, dedicated to growing, gathering, research, experimentation, and teaching. We are two generations of weavers with nearly 40 years of experience. The baskets that you see displayed here are examples of the wide variety of textures and colors that occur by using these natural materials. These are examples of Appalachian style, with handle, potato basket, without handle, wall hanging, wild grapevine spoke, and coiled pine needle. | | | |
| | Basket weaving with your own gathered supplies is like bringing nature, in an organized fashion, inside. Anyone can gather materials on their own turf, for example, yard trimmings, woodland vines, stems, and grasses.
For those of you that don't have the time to forage, BEAR BAY WEAVERS may have the diversity you seek. We offer a wide variety of materials, and will try to familiarize you with botanicals, in your own region, that are suitable for weaving.
| | | We provide all materials for making these baskets. Kits are available, that include pre-assembled frames and flexible easy to use weaving pieces for beginners.
For the die hard, seasoned weavers, with calloused hands, we have a special mix of rough and textured gatherings. Usually in stock are an assortment of palm fibers, fronds, seed stems and pods. We also carry banana stalk, willow, papyrus, cattail, yucca, philodedron, oak and surnam cherry switches, and other materials in season. Look for single materials, by the pound, and boxes of assorted supplies, in lots that are available in large or small quantities, suited for the individual needs. Samples for the price of postage also offered. Happy gathering, to my fellow foragers!
