  • Extending the Life of Your Shoes

Bluefrogshoes.com attempts to carry high quality shoes at discount prices!  Caring for shoes properly is an essential part of extending the life of footwear.  Here are a few cleaning tips to help you do just that!

1.  If you wear leather shoes, purchase Saddle Soap.  Saddle Soap was originally created for use on saddles.  Saddle Soap cleans and protects finished leather in a way that other cleaning products do not.  It also helps keep designer and comfort shoes soft and supple.  After cleaning your shoes with Saddle Soap, add colored shoe cream to hide any blemishes.

2.  Freshen up the outer soles of women's shoes with permanent markers.  Many name brand, high-end womens shoes have leather soles.  The outer portions of these soles often become scuffed and need freshening up.  It is difficult to polish the outer soles of some shoes because they are thin.  Using shoe polish to do this is sometimes difficult.  Shoe polish will often run onto the shoe itself.  Use a black permanent marker to freshen up the outer soles of womens shoes that have been worn a while!

3.  Use scuff remover to get rid of black marks on shoes.  It really does work! I have used scuff remover on designer tennis shoes as well has high heels.  The shoes often look new after using this product.

4.  Beware of Goo Gone or similar products.  Although this product  can be useful to get rid of dirt and grime, Goo Gone can damage the rubber soles of both sneakers and designer footwear.  Pay attention to the label of the product you are using.

5. Soak a cotton ball in alcohol to clean dirt from the bottoms of shoes that have rubber soles.

6. Suede can actually be cleaned fairly well using suede cleaner in aerosole form.  Brush suede shoes before spraying on cleaner.  Be sure to follow instructions.  Do not spray too closely to the shoe.  Let the shoe dry thoroughly.

High quality shoes will last a long time if cared for properly.  Save some money and follow these tips! - Miriam @ Bluefrogshoes.com
