Sizing
The chart below compares the sizes of a few brands I sell often. This way if you already know what size fits you in one brand, you can translate that into other brands.
The sizes in each row should fit about the same, though the cut is different in each brand. Look at the photos, description and measurements carefully to determine the style and cut of the garment and make sure it's what you want.
Still, each brand of clothes fits differently, and even within a brand, some garments fit differently than others. That's why I always include the measurements in every auction. If you ever need a specific measurement that's not included, or you're on the fence about an item and want to talk about fit, feel free to e-mail me and we'll figure it out together. I want to help you find the right fit.
I measure the clothing item itself, which corresponds pretty accurately to actual body measurements. If you're unsure, try measuring an item that fits you well and compare.
Tops
Torrid and Alloy clothes tend to be more fitted and the tops shorter because they are marketed to a youthful audience.
Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Liz Claiborne and other Misses and Plus clothes trend toward hip-length tops, looser fit, and longer sleeves (on short-sleeve tops).
Lane Bryant rides the fence between sophistication and trendy youthfulness, which means you'll find a mix of items. Lane Bryant tops are often cut to accomodate large breasts (including shaping with darts), which can be a problem on smaller-breasted women.

Bottoms
Torrid and Alloy sell mostly low-rise bottoms, while Lane Bryant, Ralph Lauren, Tommy and Liz trend toward at-the-waist or just-below-waist styles. Non-low-rise pants and skirts have smaller waist measurements than low-rise pants in the same size because the garment is sitting at the natural waist instead of lower on the hips.
The Misses Plus brands tend to be more generous through the hips and thighs. Individual items within a brand can differ, so be sure to check measurements.
