I am Charlie Rees, an artist with a studio in Saugatuck, Michigan. I am a painter, but in recent years, I have been working in stained glass, creating mosaics.
Although ancient crafts, stained glass and mosaics are bold, contemporary art forms.
I have created a series of stained glass mosaics, “Each Piece Has a History”. In this series, I search for vintage pieces such as silver plated trays, ceramic dinnerware and old mirrors to to house and frame the mosaic. The vintage pieces show signs of use, a testimony to their prior life.
Once cleaned, these vintage pieces receive a new life. They house, frame and illuminate a colorful mosaic. They can add a sculptural effect. These mosaics are unique, one of a kind.
