Konoe Jushiro (1914 - 1977) - born Toraichi Megro in Nagaoka, Japan. One of the biggest chambara movie stars of all time, Konoe appeared in over 200 movies and TV dramas.
Known for his dazzling swordplay, powerful, speedy, and yet beautiful. He was drafted twice for military service and had to be away from the movie industry for 10 years.
Starting from a small part all over again when he was 36, his chambara soon became essential in many movies. His most famous role was in the samurai movie series "Yagyu Bugeicho", in which he starred as the sword master, Yagyu Jubei.
When the movie industry produced less chambara movies, Konoe found his new frontier in the TV drama "Samurai Vagabond", which became a top-rated hit and continued to cover prime time from 1965 until 1974 with a total of 284 chambara stories! He retired in 1973 due to his worsening diabetes.
