We LOVE Horses! Here are some fun things for you and your favorite horse lovers to check out.
For our youngest horse lovers
COLORING PAGES - Coloring pages are like images from a coloring book - except you find them on the web and print only the ones you want. Do a websearch for Horse Coloring Page, and you will find plenty of line drawings to print for your child to color in.
One of my favorites is here: http://www.first-school.ws/theme/animals/cp_farm/cp_horse.htm
Some advantages of printing coloring pages over coloring books are:
-
You can print multiples of the same image - so that more than one child (or you along with the child) can color the same thing. Or, if your child "messes up" - you can just print her a new one.
-
You can change the size of the image, but clicking on "print preview" from your web browser, and then selecting a % to scale the image.
In addition to just coloring, just the images for:
Puppet Shows - Just cut out the image after it is colored and in tape a straw to the back. Your horse lover can duck behind the couch or under a table to present her show!
Birthday Party Invitations - Several Ideas..
-
Print a full sized horse image, then write the party details around or on her, and let your child color them - one especially for each guest.
-
By saving some images to your computer (right click, select Save As, then insert in a Word Document) you can include a number of images, sized as you like, and positioned to make either a postcard style invitation, or folded invitation. Have fun experiementing!
T-Shirts - print an image onto transfer paper and iron on to a T-shirt. Both the ink jet transfer paper and inexpensive Tshirts in many colors are available at fabric stores and large craft stores. Expand this idea by looking for tote bags, pillow cases, and other items an image can be ironed onto.
Note: Coloring Page images should not be used for any commercial use without permission of the image owner.

Birthday Parties
My own daugther has had 3 Horse Themed Birthday Parties thus far, here are the cakes I made! (I again used coloring pages! Just use yellow cake writing gel to outline the coloring page, flip onto the frosted cake, pat lightly, and remove paper. Use icing tips to fill in the sections and draw the outlines)

Of course, she couldn't resist Pinkie Pie!

Her 5th Birthday party was also horse themed - a white horse with rainbows actually. But, sadly, we forgot to get a photo of the cake!!!!!

Horse Themed Crafts
Again, the web is an excellent source of craft ideas for horse lovers. You will find various skill levels and materials needed.
Plenty are available using nothing more than paper, your printer, crayons, sissors, and glue.
My favorite is - brown paper lunch bag (or grocery store bag) colored as a horse, stuff with newspaper, tie around the bottom to a "stick" (branch, dowel rod - tent pole - whatever you have!) She will love MAKING it, and also Playing with it - forever.
My daughter is now 6 years old, and in 1st grade, but she still plays with a horse on a stick.... sometimes along with the 9 year old girl across the street!
Dont forget to make a TINY one for your PUPPET SHOWs too! (use a square of tissue paper for the head... perhaps on a pencil... or maybe just use a lolli-pop! Imagination is more valueable than any craft supply or toy will ever be!

Folded Invitation Directions:
-
Choose one image or several, place the image in the lower right hand corner of the word document - add text as desired and print.
-
Then, create text for the inside of your invitation (along with more images if you like!), again at the lower right hand corner of the page.
-
Place the paper into the printer with the same side facing up as before, but with the other end facing into the printer.
-
Then, just fold the paper in half and in half again - and you have a custom made invitation - custom made by you for your horse lover.
-
Allow your horse lover to color it herself if she likes.
