Aromatic Rose Bead Jewelry.... A unique personal gift.
Above are examples of some custom made jewelry. Most have been sold. Check current inventory in my ebay store.
Small beads require 2-3 large roses; larger pendants can take up to 8-10 roses!
Each bead is handcrafted from fresh rose petals, steeped in tradition, the result of nature transformed through chemistry and crafted into art. As you wear them, they become darker and polished. Do not soak. A Mother Earth News editor spoke with a person who owns a rose bead necklace that's 50 years old and is still fragrant!
The rose is symbolic of love, loyalty, beauty, purity, sensuality and spirituality. It's exquisite smell is deemed to be aphrodiasic, medicinal and uplifting to the spirit.
FRESH ROSE PETALS are brewed and carefully tended in my New England kitchen until they become an aromatic workable clay. This is an ancient process which takes up to three weeks. Prayer 'Rosary Beads' were made this way. Wear them close to your skin as the natural rose scent is intensified by your body heat.
Some of the pieces have a 'love-in-a-puff' seed inlay. These seeds were collected in my garden and supply is limited to current stock. I hope to have success growing more vines next Summer.
Consider having your own special occasional roses made into a keepsake, one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry at NO EXTRA COST!. Contact seller for further details.
Here's an interesting excerpt from the book "Old Ways Rediscovered" by C. Meyer: Astringent vegetable matter, in combination with iron, is frequently characterized by a hardness that is not exceeded by ebony, and which is perfectly insoluble; the action of iron upon the petals of the red rose furnishes a very striking instance of the fact; if the petals be beaten upon in an iron mortar, for some hours, they ultimately become converted into a paste of an intensely black hue; which, when rolled into beads and dried, is susceptible of a most beautiful polish; still retaining the fragrance of the rose. I have seen a necklace of this description; indeed, these beads form an article of extensive commerce with the Turks, and are imported into Europe, through Austria, under the name of rose beads, or rose pearls. Paris' PHARMACOLOGIA, 1833.
If you're still in doubt as to how sturdy and fragrant these beads are, you can request a sample bead which is made into a charm to keep on your keychain, cell phone or air freshener for your car. Samples $5.00.; s&h $2.00 sent USPS first class to Canada and US. |
