DEREK LAM + eBay

For the exclusive eBay collection, Derek Lam has designed an assortment of iconic dress styles he envisions for every woman's wardrobe. Lam's understanding of women's individuality is represented in this collaboration through refined combinations of clean lines, effortless elegance, and a playful touch of sensual femininity.

Intersecting fashion with technology, this collaboration allows Lam to directly engage with his customers around the world and receive their instant feedback through online voting. This interactive channel of communication will determine the five winning dresses produced for the final collection. This new kind of relationship between designer and consumer highlights the infinite possibilities of the industry's future.

"Having a direct and immediate dialogue with the online audience is what makes fashion exciting and relevant in this moment. eBay's technology offers me a unique and innovative opportunity to reach new and existing customers directly and to create fashion they desire"

DEREK LAM

Derek Lam began his fashion career in 1990 after graduating from Parsons School of Design. After twelve years working for the acclaimed American fashion designer Michael Kors, Lam, together with his partner Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann, launched his eponymous label in 2003. Building upon his success, Lam took on the additional role as Creative Director of Tod's, the Italian accessories brand in 2006.

Derek's vision for his label is to create clothes that are both luxurious and wearable, with a feminine but clean-lined beauty about them. He strives to make fashion that is timeless in its elegance: To offer one clear example, Lam is known for cutting the most perfect trench.

"I am interested in what it means to live a contemporary life," says Lam. "I always consider what will work for women at this moment, and to me this moment is about luxury without formality. Even at their most feminine, my clothes are not precious or staid."
