DesignersForDarfur in association with Fashion Television, The Save Darfur Coalition and presenting sponsor Steve Madden hosted a charity fashion show on February 9, 2007 in New York City to raise funds for the Save Darfur Coalition. Organized by designer Malcolm Harris of Mal Sirrah and Lydia Hearst, the show was an opportunity for the fashion community to band together to show their commitment and support for ending the atrocities of genocide taking place in Darfur.
Chado Ralph Rucci, L.A.M.B, Heatherette, Naeem Khan, Donna Karan, Mal Sirrah, and Carlos Miele are among the designers who agreed to create one of kind outfits that were sent down the runway. Participants made clothes in red, black, green or yellow, or any combination of those colors that are symbolic of Africa.
All of the garments used in the show are now being offered here exclusively on Ebay with profits going to the Save Darfur Coalition to assist in their efforts of bringing this crisis in Darfur to an end.
According to the Save Darfur Coalition, at least 400,000 people have been killed in the conflict and more than two million have been displaced. More than 3.5 million people in the region rely on international aid for survival. To learn more about the effort, visit savedarfur.org.
