Dog-gone Dog Days of Summer
It’s August and here in Las Vegas and across the Northern Hemisphere we’re experiencing the hottest and most sultry of summer days, commonly known as the “dog days of summer”. According to Wikipedia, the name comes from the ancient belief that Sirius, also called the Dog Star, in proximity to the sun was responsible for hot weather. All I know is that it is hot hot hot where I live this time of year!
There is also a lethargy that comes with the dog days of summer, back-to-school shopping is in full swing, many summer vacations have already been taken, and our summer activities are coming to a close. In just a few weeks we’ll celebrate Labor Day, our unofficial end-of-summer, and our focus will shift to fall activities like hayrides, Homecoming, Halloween and football.
Take time out to enjoy these dog days of summer so that you’ll have some great memories to keep you warm during the fall and winter ahead. Go sit in the sun, raise a tall, cold glass of lemonade and just relax. Summer will be over before you know it. And get ready to gear-up for all the fall and winter fun: Halloween, Thanksgiving and – YIKES – Christmas, are just around the corner!
