A Word from Down Home Crafts and Such
Below are some tips from the person who makes our hand-poured soy candles. I took the liberty of adapting some of the text to fit my individual products, meaning of course the mason jar candles. Because other varieties are available from Caterpillar Candles and they apply to any brand you may purchase, I left intact the points about votives and pillars. The short story of this page is that, if these instructions are heeded, soy candles are extremely safe to burn, as well as longer lasting, and thus more enjoyable.
Now to Introduce You to Caterpillar Candles
Caterpillars Soy Candles are made from 100% all natural soy and vegetable waxes. |
This renewable source of wax burns cleaner and lasts longer than traditional waxes as it burns at a cooler temperature. Soy wax is creamy, opaque and soft. |
You might notice soy candles have the natural appearance of white snowflakes in the wax or white crusty tops after burning. This is a common occurrence and property of soy wax and does not affect the bum quality of the candle in any way. |
Candles may also exhibit some "sweating" or wet spots. This usually happens during shipping. Soy Wax will release excess moisture that it cannot hold. You can leave it or wipe it out with a paper towel. |
· Trim wicks to 1/4" on all tins and jars. Burn on heat safe surface 1 hour for every inch the candle is in diameter or until the melt pool is 1/4" deep. |
· Burn votives in a tight fitting holder as candle will Liquefy! |
· For best results with pillars, trim wicks to 1/2" and burn inside a hurricane shade. Pillars will tunnel and look like a paper lantern when burned properly. |
Never leave a burning candle unattended! |
