Durango Silver Company designs and manufactures sterling silver jewelry in western and
southwestern designs. We have a retail / wholesale store located in Durango, Colorado and have been located here since 1976. We have been traders in the Indian business since 1972. We are a family owned and operated business and love sharing our treasures with others. When you buy a piece from us, you can be assured it is authentic and American made.

We use Sterling Silver, Gold, Turquoise, Variscite, Sugilite, Lapis, Opal, Corals and a wide range of
gemstones to create some of the finest jewelry being produced in the Southwestern United States.

Our jewelry & designs are created in-house by John and Dillon Hartman. We finish many of our pieces at our location as well as contract it out our designs to multiple Navajo Silversmiths. We hand cut the majority of the stones we use in our jewelry. We trade stones to Native Americans to have our designs made with our stones.

Jewelry and especially silver jewelry has been part of the trade and monetary system of this region
for over two hundred years. The Spanish brought the trade and many of the designs to the Navajos and other pueblo Indians in the early 1800's and by the early 1900's southwest jewelry had become famous worldwide. Turquoise was used as the stone of choice by the Native Americans as they had used the stone for medicinal purposes in the past.
