ANTIQUE QUILTS with FINE NEEDLEWORK.
OUR FULL TIME WORK IS TO SEARCH MIDWEST ESTATE AUCTIONS WHERE WE SPECIALIZE IN FINDING GREAT OLD QUILTS & QUILT TOPS. Sometimes they still smell of the cedar chest where they may have been stored as treasures from the 1800's. These may even have cotton seeds embedded in the batting.
We are always looking for fine handwork and intricate postage stamp hand piecing, regardless of the age. Often we recognize more recent needlework from the 1930's to 1940's with colorful cotton prints.
One of the key ingredients that literally holds a quilt together is the fine hand quilting. On very early quilts, sometimes the fabric will have literally disintegrated due to certain dyes that were used, but the fine hand quilting will have held it together, making even a ragged quilt, a masterpiece, if Grandma made it. There are two points of view regarding hand-quilting, some say all that matters is uniformity, while others insist it is all about the number of stitches. So we usually show the SPI, Stitches Per Inch in our ads, so you can decide which is most important to you.
By default, when we find lesser quilts, we will offer them as cutters for the crafters and those who have the NEED to RESTORE OLD TREASURED QUILTS.
We invite you to enjoy today's selection below as they are ever-changing. |
