| I opened my own Radio & TV. repair shop in the early 1950's after my discharge from the Signal Corp at the end of WW11. We repaired radios, tv's, car radios & the occasional Amp. When Television really got started in the early 50's my service work turned almost completely to sales & repair of TV sets. I worked 1st hand with the old vacuum tubes that are now so popular before transistors took over and for a time cancelled out the vacuum tube. We made service calls back in those days for TV repair, smaller radios were brought in to the shop. My tube tester, vacuum tube voltmeter, oscilloscope & other instruments were mounted on a work station. Actually, the tube tester was seldom used, except in Amp work. All tube failures were usually just replaced with new tubes & many of the failures were loss of filament continuity. All bad tubes were thrown out immediately for fear of mix-up. I am selling on Ebay just to keep busy & keep my mind active and yes, because I enjoy it. It's a pleasure to reacquaint myself with the past. At present, I am using an old B&K Dyna Jet Model 606 tube tester--I really don't mind checking twin triodes individually and actually the ability to check for emission under load, is an advantage in this tester; I also have a HICKOK 533A Mutual Conductance Tube Tester that works very well in matching and balancing tubes for guitar & amp sensitivity and that tester has its own advantages. |
