SHIPPING AND DELIVERY
Your Shipping Address
Please note that I use your Paypal registered address for shipping. This is not an obvious address to maintain up to date, and where I spot a difference with the Ebay address, I may ask for customer confirmation.
However I may not always notice and I apologise if any post arrives at an old address. Also if my request for address confirmation is not replied to very soon, I will ship anyway. This is to keep my inbox clear and to avoid complaints about late items!
To avoid this confusion please keep both Ebay AND Paypal addresses the same and up to date.
Generally I am happy to ship to most countries, although depending on the item value I may offer delivery only with a tracked and/or insured service.
For large or heavy items I may restrict shipping range as it may not be economical to ship any further. However if you want to bid on or buy an item which is not marked as being available for your country, please contact me, I am still willing to quote shipping in most cases.
Quoted Shipping Costs
I ship from Guernsey, which has its own shipping rates. These rates are comparable to UK Royal Mail rates but do have differences.
If you need to check the shipping prices the Guernsey Post Office web site has a good rate finder.
I normally charge the cost of postage, packaging materials, a small handling charge, and sometimes for valuable or medium to large items, a small surcharge to cover a trip and maybe a wait at the Post Office.
Overseas shipping costs may cover not only the higher cost of postage, but also the extra time it may take to research postage costs/methods, to verify address format, or to answer the sometimes more involved communications. In some cases I will pack an item in different packaging if it will be travelling far. This may increase packing costs and may also increase the item packed weight and size and therefore the cost of postage.
Although I offer a variety of shipping methods depending on the item, I am willing to consider alternative postage methods on request, although this is at my discretion. For example Fedex, for expedited (and expensive) shipping worldwide.
Note : From 1st April 2012 I altered my price structure to take into account UK import VAT. In order to be fair to my overseas buyers I may offer free shipping to compensate for the higher item price and so offset this UK VAT charge. You may still be required to pay import VAT and duties in your own country.
Import VAT into the UK
From 1st April 2012 all packets sent from Guernsey to the UK will be charged Import VAT at 20% of the total item+postage amount. I have reluctantly had to increase my prices to take this into account.
Unfortunately the ruling made by the UK Government has been aimed at every Guernsey and Jersey seller including those one (wo)man bands so common on Ebay. This is of course unfair as UK small sellers do not have to charge VAT. I apologise to my UK buyers for this, unfortunately there is little I can do.
Customs and Import Duties and other Taxes to Overseas
For overseas transactions the buyer is responsible for any duties payable when the item enters the buyer's country.
Shipping within Guernsey and Jersey
To offset the VAT I am now forced to charge to the UK, I may offer free shipping within Guernsey and Jersey.
Please select "Local Pickup" where offered and I will post for free.
I normally try to get small items sent as soon as possible, to keep my inbox clear and my customers happy. In these cases I will normally quote dispatch within 1 working day.
For items which require more work to prepare for shipping, and for more valuable or larger items requiring a trip to the Post Office, I will normally quote dispatch within 2 working days (although in many cases it will still be within 1 working day).
For large, heavy, complicated, or made to order items the dispatch times may be longer, individual listings will show expected delivery times.
In any case of extended or unexpected delay, or a shipping query, I will normally contact the buyer individually.
Guernsey Post currently flies mail to the UK each weekday evening. We do NOT have Saturday collections. Therefore if you order after midday on Friday your order may not leave the island until Monday evening.
Having said that, post to the UK in the majority of cases will reach the recipient the next working day, similar to Royal Mail First Class post. However it will sometimes take 2 days, or of course longer when the Royal Mail has more widespread delays due to wintry weather, holidays or other factors.
Under normal circumstances the delivery times below may be expected.
These delivery times are based on my experience, and may be different from Post Office estimates.
Note : At times of postal delays, there could be a longer wait.
