We understand the challenges of shopping online, and want to make purchasing that special gift for your beloved pets as easy as possible. As How's Your Dog offers merchandise manufactured by many different designers, sizes will vary from designer to designer. We suggest you measure your pet carefully and purchase items based on your pet's measurements rather than their size. Please refer to the measurement in inches listed next to each size to ensure you choose the correct size for your pet.
If you have questions regarding sizing or a particular product, please contact us for more information before you order the item. Please understand that we can only offer guidance since it is impossible for us to determine your pet's size without actually seeing your pet, we cannot guarantee our sizing recommendations.
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR DOG
AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT. Always measure your dog with a tape measure or a string before ordering. Please refer to the items' measurements and size chart in the item description prior to ordering. We provide detailed measurements for each product to ensure customers are not misled by manufacturers sizing labels.
If you are buying a COLLAR, measure around your dog's neck (where the collar will rest) with just enough room added (usually 0.5 to 2 inches depending on the size of your dog) as you feel is necessary for them to be comfortable.
If you are buying a GARMENT or a HARNESS, to determine the proper size for your dog, measure your dog's neck, chest girth and back:

1. Neck - measure around your dog's neck (where the collar will rest) with just enough room added (usually 0.5 to 2 inches depending on the size of your dog) as you feel is necessary for them to be comfortable.
2. Back Length - measure the length from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. This measurement will determine where the garment will stop along the back. Note: the back length will not matter if the chest measurement is inaccurate.
3. Chest - measure your dog's chest, all the way round, directly behind the front legs and around the back. This is generally the most important measurement for clothing. If it is too small, it will not fit, if it is too big, your dog may not walk comfortably.
Please Note: If measurements fall between two sizes, please select the larger size.
For pet CARRIERS, we suggest you make your decision based on the dimensions of the bag, as the weight capacity listed for each carrier is only meant to be used as a general guideline.
For pet BEDS, we suggest you measure your pet while lying down and add approximately 6 to10 inches to determine the ideal bed length. In most cases a cramped bed would be considered uncomfortable, so if in doubt, we recommend ordering the next larger size based on your pet's measurements.
