Buying clothing without being able to try it on first can be frustrating, but it doesn't have to be!

Anyone who has purchased an article of clothing based solely on the fact that it was "their size" has probably been disappointed before. There is no real standard to how items are sized. Each manufacturer tends to size their items differently. Some items are cut larger while others are cut small. It can also depend on the style or brand of an item. Vintage clothing was cut much smaller than today's styles, so if you are shopping for vintage clothing and you are only going by the size of the tag and not the measurements, the chance of you getting a proper fit is slim to none. For example, a vintage size 12 is probably the equivalent of a modern day size 8, BUT at the same time a modern day size 8 can vary based on the manufacturer. Instead of playing a guessing game, do not go by the size tag on the item, base the size on the measurements of the garment.

At Haunted House Clothing & Colletibles, I want you to know exactly how I measure my items so you will be ensured that the item you select will work for you. In all of my descriptions under "size" you will find several measurements provided. These measurements are of the garment itself, NOT your body measurements. Remember that for almost all clothing, you will want an ease between the measurement of the garment and your body measurements.

Normally you will want the item to measure between 1" - 1 1/2" larger than your body measures. OR you would want the garment to have a nice amount of stretch to it. In some cases you will see that the measurements I provide have a range to them and this would indicate (along with the fabric content which is also provided) that the item does stretch. If there is no stretch to the garment, and you do not allow for any room between garment and body, the item would be literally skin tight. If the items is designed to have a loose or flowing fit you would need to allow for more room (maybe 2" - 3") between the garment measurement and your body measurements.

*The BEST way to ensure a proper fit is for you to compare the measurements of a garment you are interested in buying to the measurements of a similar item that you already own that fits you properly.
The charts below explain how I measure my items. Measurements are taken with the item laying flat (except for the length measurement which is taken with the item hanging).

If after reviewing the measurements in the description and looking at the measuring info below, you are still unsure if it will fit you properly, please contact me. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have.
