High Intensity Bike Shop....aka HIBS.... is a small town bicycle shop located in Northern New Hampshire. The retail store is located just off RTE 91 exit 17.
The Shop is owned by Tommy B. who has been riding bikes since he was 2 years old. He has been racing bicycles for over 30 years. He raced as a Pro in BMX. He has also raced in World Cup Pro and Semi-Pro Downhill and Slalom races as well as notable road races like the Mount Washington Uphill Climb. He's got many years of experience and knowledge in bicycles and bicycle parts.
In addition to his cycling experience, he brings a technical and mechanical capacity unlike the average cylist or bike technician as he is not only a bike technician, but he is also an ASE certified auto/truck technician with his ASE certification in braking systems. Prior to owning the bike shop, he had worked as an auto/truck technician for 22 years.
Tom participates in HIBS's weekly mountain bike and road bike group rides
(though for safety reasons the road bike group ride ceases during the winter months).
Our crew at HIBS ride bikes year round. Tom has over 20 years of winter riding experience. He is considered by many an expert in both clothing and tire choices for winter riding. His bike of choice for when the snow is deep is the Surly Pugsley with it's 4" wide tires. He often leads the group and packs the trail down for the little bikes to follow. When the trails are already packed and littered with frozen ice patches, he'll often switch out his Pugsley for a Rocky Mountain Slayer or a Kona Dawg Supreme. His favorite Nokian studded snow tire is the Freddie with 336 studs per tire.
Tom is considered by many a Pugsley specialist. He has custom built many Pugsleys and shipped them as far off as the Netherlands....(Thanks to all who have contributed to these sales.)
Shop location is in the Connecticut River Valley and is shadowed by both NH's White Mountains and VT's Green Mountains
. Our mountain bike group rides often take place in NH's pristine White Mountain National Forest, while our cyclocross group rides often take place on both NHs and VTs endless, tranquil dirt roads. Our road rides wind through the valley on rest days and yet climb the super steep mountain passes that traverse the Appalachian Trail on days in which we want to challenge ourselves. Unbelievable vistas await the rider regardless of what kind of bike you are on.
