In 1993 President of Jerusalem Stone Sam Nachum was laying in bed with a broken neck. He survived an extremely high risk operation and for the majority of a little over a year was unable work, drive, and do much more than recover. During his recovery he spent most of his time watching the world news which was at this point in history reporting stone throwing throughout the streets of Jerusalem. He told his wife, Dana, that he wanted to bring that stone from Israel and take something being portrayed as negative and show its beauty to those who would appreciate it. She quickly reminded him that he had not worked in almost 2 years and that working with stone after undergoing surgery for a broken neck was not a very logical idea. For several months they thought over the idea and ultimately decided to mortgaged their home. Dana and Sam went to Israel with his neck/shoulder/head brace specifically to purchase stone and bring it back to the United States to form his company Jerusalem Stone. In Jan 1995 it was publicly announced that Jerusalem Stone was open for business. For several years nobody had every heard of Jerusalem Stone. Thousands of samples packages, brochures, and pricing guides were sent to stores throughout the United States. It took the good part of a decade before public awareness of Jerusalem Stone began to significantly increase. Today Jerusalem Stone is being referred to as one of the most elegant and beautiful natural stones available on the market.
