THE LATEST CALICO CRITTERS

What could be better than to welcome spring with a scenic caravan ride and a camping trip! That is exactly what the Calico Critters have in mind for early 2011, along with the introduction of some new friends and other adventures too!

The popular and remarkably imaginative line of children's toys has released five excellent new designs that include a brand-new family of cows - the Friesian Family; a Caravan Family Camper that sleeps four; a Let's Go Camping set with everything a Calico family could need to enjoy a weekend getaway; an all-new Yellow Labrador Family; and the adorable Baby Choo Choo Train.

If you are unfamiliar with this line of toys, it helps to understand that it is based on a world populated by animal families living in harmony and peaceful past times. There are farming families, teaching families, and almost every possible kind of setting or home imaginable.

The 2011 toys focus a great deal on the outdoors. The Caravan Family Camper will function with any of the Calico Critter families. It will hold a family of four and contains all of the same features as the standard "human size" models. There is a kitchenette, sink, and even a tiny bathroom suite. The caravan has an impressive number of accessories and will serve as the ideal "vehicle" for hours of creative and imaginative fun.

If a child prefers their adventures to be a bit more rugged, they can use the Let's Go Camping set instead. This kit is designed for the Silky Cat Sister Susie and comes with all of the gear necessary for a cozy weekend in the woods. There are over 20 different accessories including the stove, lantern, tent and more.

If a child prefers to send their Calico Critters on an outdoor train adventure, the new Choo Choo Train set is the ideal solution. This contains seating for four of the "baby" Calico Critters and includes a traditional steam engine to pull the two painted cars. There is also a platform and gate included in the set.

The two brand new families to arrive on the scene are the Friesian Cow and the Yellow Labrador families.

The Cow Family includes Daisy, the mother, who spends her days in the gardens around her home. The father Cow name Leo is a carpenter by trade and has the overalls and kerchief necessary for his line of work. The two children include Betsy and Patch. Betsy is a very social gal who dresses a bit like Daisy, but spends time with friends. Patch is a musician who plays the drums in the school band!

The Yellow Labrador family includes mother Lucy who teaches at the local school and father Barker who is a very busy professional photographer. The children include Sadie and Buddy. Sadie is an outdoor girl who enjoys carnivals, and Buddy is also a fan of the natural world, but prefers to go camping and hiking instead.

Clearly, a child's imagination will be well fed by the stories possible with such toys, but the different creatures and careers also make the stories quite modern and yet family-oriented.
