Do
I Need a COA?
(Certificate of Authenticity)
- COAs are only as good as their issuing entity. You can be sure
that anyone knowingly selling fake memorabilia will include a bogus COA.
- For that reason, I have stopped issueing Certificates of
Authenticity for autographs and other collectibles. After all, anyone
with a laser printer and good desktop publishing skills can generate a
nice looking COA that means absolutely nothing.
- I do not carry items that I do not believe to be genuine! In most
cases, my lot description should contain a full description including
any important facts you need to make up your mind.
- If the item you are buying came with a COA when I acquired it
then I'll include that document when I send your item.
- I am a collector first! Virtually all the autographs and film
memorabilia that I sell are nolonger wanted or duplicate materials from
my own collection.
- I believe that my ten-year history selling on eBay and through my
own website (http://www.leylander.org) as well as my membership in
prominant trade organizations should alieveiate any fears you might
have about dealing with me.
Prop Money/Banknotes
- A large percentage of the "movie
money" now on the market came from the same source, Ellis Props &
Graphics. After Ellis closed their warehouse in the late-1990s,
they auctioned thousands of screen used movie and television props.
Their Phony Motion Picture Money
lots were often gigantic consisting of tens of thousands of banknotes.
For each of these multi-item lots a single COA was issued.
- Ellis made no claims as to in which
films these props has seen use. In most cases they had no idea.
- It has taken dealers and
collectors years to figure out which money was used in which film or
films. The primary source for this information is Fred Reed's
monumental work Show Me the Money which catalogs thousands of film used
bills.
- When I state in a lot
description that a bill was used in a particular movie I mean that
bills of the same type were used in that film. No one knows which
specific bills were used in what movie.
- Below you will find links to
original COAs that document most of the prop notes that I sell. Thanks!
