Strong Arm Supports are typically comprised of the following parts:

Cylinder Heavy gauge steel body, painted and cured to a glossy finish. Lift Support
Piston Rod Chromium-plated, hardened steel, precision-ground and highly polished.
Piston Assembly Self-cleaning design automatically opens during each stroke to keep the piston area free of contaminants. Not offered by all manufacturers.
Sealing System This is the area where most manufacturers differ in their approach. Strong Arm uses a patented Triple-Lobe Rubber Seal, as well as a Rubber O-Ring Piston Seal.
Seal Backup System Teflon ring, functions as a backup to the seal system, unique to Strong Arm. Prevents seal wear.
Temperature Compensation Optional feature, this module provides for an increase in the force when the temperature drops below approximately 40°F enabling the use of lower forces at room temperatures to provide easier closing efforts.
Nitrogen Gas Charge Gas springs are charged with nitrogen up to 2500 psi. Nitrogen does not react with any of the internal components. The amount of charge varies from 1/3 gram in the smallest springs to about 24 grams in the largest. Nitrogen is inert and is not flammable.
Glycol Fluid Lubricant for internal components. Also provides dampening to slow down movement of liftgate just prior to full open. This is a high viscosity index synthetic oil with a pour point of -70°F.

How to Install U Band
  • Always wear Safety Glasses for eye protection.
  • Use Safety stands whenever a procedure requires you under the vehicle or supports. Or have someone hold the lid open for you so that they can raise or lower it as needed.
  • Before removing the old lift support, inspect the end connections and compare them to the units on your vehicle to make sure that they are the same As well as the extended length.
  • Remove the old support from the vehicle by placing a small flat headed screw driver under the U shaped band on the ends of the support. Slowly turn the screw driver and it will lift up on the band approx.1/8", then pull the support away from the vehicle and it will release.
  • To install the new supports do the same procedure in reverse. DO NOT jam the new support end over the ball socket without lifting the U band slightly or damage may occur.
  • Lift Supports need to be installed fully extended. In most cases you just can't compress them unless they are on the vehicle. If you have any issues during the installation PLEASE contact us. Never force a support.
  • If the ends are not lining up the support may need to be turned. To do this attach the shaft end of the support to the vehicle and then turn the entire body of the support clockwise unit the ends line up.

 

 

Warranty

Lift Supports for the Hood, Trunk, Hatch, Liftgate or Tailgate: Are covered with a Limited Lifetime warranty . Provided your original purchase was for a pair (unless your application only uses 1 lift support) These must be installed in the intended vehicle and the unit stops working properly or to your satisfaction.

Lift Supports for Non Automotive applications, Tonneau covers, package delivery vehicles, and special projects are cover for a period of 12 months.

In the event that the units stop performing after 180 days then you would be responsible to ship them to us and enclose a check for $8.00 (for shipments inside the USA) as well as proof of purchase from us to cover the return postage, and we will then send you the replacement unit. Please contact us before the units are shipped for an RMA number.
