How To Care For My Jewelry

* Stainless Steel bracelets & IDs:
Stainless steel is the best for all Medical Alert ID purposes. They are non-allergenic, very durable and the most reliable. Steel ID plates give the best visible engraving & water will not effect them. Steel Medical IDs can still be scratched just like any other metal. Stainless steel ID bracelets are made to be very strong. Steel ID bracelets are also able to be adjustable at home. To remove links use a pair of pliers, and twist apart unneeded links. If needed I can repair minor changes to sizing. Please see my Repair/Resizing. Above all Stainless Steel IDs are the most preferred for Medical ID Jewelry.

* Aluminum IDs:
Aluminum IDs are inexpensive and easy to take care of. The engraving shows up in a off white / silver . For the most part water will not effect them. The engraving may show up a littler darker after being exposed to water. Also if the ID gets dirty the engraving may show the dirt a little. These IDs are great as disposable IDs and may not last for the long haul as they can be prone to scratches. It may be a good idea to have a steel ID plate to wear while being rough on your ID and the Aluminum for the times you want a light colorful inexpensive ID.

* Wood IDs:
Wood is a very unique material used for medical jewelry. Wood will show the engraving in a very deep dark bold font which is what you want for safety. Wood will also be a little harder to be scratched but is not invincible to scratches. The main thing to be careful with is water. Though these items are water resistant generally speaking water may harm your medical ID. Water may take color away from the medical symbol and discolor the wood. If you have a wood dog tag or key chain, it’s best to keep it out of the shower, pool etc…

* Plastic ID Tags:
Plastic is very durable, inexpensive and light. They can be scratched just like anything else if you tried but not prone to scratching. They are water proof so this makes them great to be used attached to a swimming suit or scuba gear. Some paint thinners could essentially fade the color of the plastic so be careful with such chemicals. (there aren’t many and daily house cleaners will not effect these items.

* Designer Beaded Bracelets :
Identity doctor only uses Sterling for our designer beaded bracelets. This includes clasps & sterling beads. Also bracelets can include pearls and various other precious stones. With that said our designer bracelets should be taken care of just like any other precious jewelry. Sterling silver can tarnish from water & air. Jewelry cleaner & treated polish cloth will help jewelry from tarnish. Designer medical ID bracelets should be stored with like jewelry. Sterling should not be mixed with gold and visa versa. Designer Beaded Medical ID Bracelets should be worn & treated with care, avoid water, house hold cleaners, and be careful with out door activities. Consider purchasing a steel ID bracelet or ID necklace in addition to the designer Medical bracelets.

* Pearls
Pearls are not as hard as mineral gemstones, and they are organic. Therefore you need to treat them a little differently than your other jewelry. To keep your pearls beautiful the best way is by wearing them. Natural oils in your body can keep pearls moist and lustrous. Put pearls on only after applying cosmetics, perfume, hair spray or other potentially harmful substances that might stain them. Wipe your pearls with a lint free, soft cloth as soon as you take them off. The cloth can dry or damp. If damp, allow the pearls to air dry before putting them away. Even cultured pearls with thicker coatings are more fragile than most other gemstones. To prevent chipping, pearl jewelry should be stored away from other harder jewels and in a soft cloth. Also pearls should not be used in rough activities to help preserve quality. Dirty pearls can be cleaned with a mild soap and water solution. Never clean your pearls with solutions that contain ammonia or harsh detergents.

CHILD SAFETY WARNING:
Babies and children should not wear necklaces due to risk of strangulation!
Beaded Designer Bracelets may pose as a choking hazard for babies and children should the jewelry ever break.
All items worn by children need to be under the responsibility and supervision of parent or guardian. Please use jewelry with care around children.
The smallest beaded bracelet I carry is 6 inches and that fits a 5 inch wrist. If this is too big than the child might be too young to wear ID bracelet. For some kids ID bracelets may not fit and it is recommended to purchase one of my Kid bracelet strap bands, belt loop tags and bag tags.
