Information about Makers, Mould Marks and Dates for the following:

  • 5 inch Covered Hen on Woven Nest w/Split Tail
  • Open Salt Dips, Cellars, Dishes

5 Inch Covered Hen on Woven Nest:

Westmoreland Glass Company began production with this mould in 1889. The same chicken was produced by many companies in various styles. It is well known as a Split Tail Chicken on a Woven Nest. Many of the old Chickens were packaged with mustard and condiments in them.

Westmoreland Glass made it from 1889 - 1980s. Pre 1960s there was NO marking. From 1960 - 1982 they were marked with the WG logo on the bottom. Westmoreland Glass Company then closed. Beginning in 1984, the new mould owner began marking them with a W encircled with the word Westmoreland.

Today, they are used as Covered Candy Dishes, Covered Soup Bowls, Trinket Dishes, Easter Displays, and as a beautiful, much loved collectible.

Salt Cellar Information

We do our very best to represent our Salts accurately.  If they are NEW, we say so. Each listing describes them to the best of our knowledge.

What to use a Salt Dip for?  Put them at each individual table setting, so each person will have their own salt.  Or just collect these little treasures!
