BOOK CONDITION :
|
| The following are the descriptions we use to grade our second-hand books and their dustjackets, with an explanation of what those descriptions mean. |
FINE |
The book looks to be in excellent condition, although close examination will reveal that it has been owned previously and may have an inscription to, or by, the previous owner. If there is a dustjacket present, it will look new, but is likely to have evidence of very slight rubbing on the corners. |
VERY GOOD |
The book will be in slightly less than fine condition, but apart from some possible fading, foxing and ownership/gift inscriptions/bookplates it will have no faults. If there is a dustjacket present, it will be clean and have very good colouring, but will show some rubbing to its edges and corners |
GOOD |
The book will clearly be second-hand but, apart from any minor faults noted in the listing, it will be complete. If there is a dustjacket present, it may be a little grubby, but its colouring will still be good. There will be marks, some slight creasing and other signs of wear including rubbing and small tears in the edges. |
FAIR |
The book may look grubby with some fading and wear to the binding. Faults, including damage, missing prelims, margin notes and other writing will be listed. If there is a dustjacket present, it will be less than good but largely complete. There are likely to be tears, chips and rubbing (which will be noted in the listing). |
POOR |
The book is only suitable for reading as the covers may well be warped, and some prelims may be missing. The binding is also likely to be damaged beyond repair. If there is a dustjacket present, it will be dirty, creased, torn and marked and is likely to have large pieces missing. | |
