About Missing Pieces

During the many years of working in the china departments of Birks Jewellers and The Bay, there were cries of disappointment from people when they first learned that their china pattern had been discontinued.

In hopes of helping people complete their cherished sets, Missing Pieces, founded by Janice Howard, was created in September of 1993.
We began by simply locating new pieces for people.
We found that many retailers heavily stocked many patterns and were often left with large inventories even after the patterns became discontinued.
Still today, we have access to hundreds of thousands of brand new pieces of patterns as old as 40 years.

We continue to find new sources of new pieces as well as building our own inventory of thousands of pieces, both new and second-hand.
Most retail stores no longer stock china as they once did, relying mostly on special orders.
With this in mind, we try to stock up on the newly discontinued patterns as they become discontinued from the manufacturer.

By building a relationship with many of the manufacturers, this allows us to buy directly from them and receive their current price lists which advises us of which patterns will be discontinued and when.
This allows us time to contact our customers to give them a chance to complete their dinnerware sets before they are discontinued.
