CLASSIC HORROR MAKES FOR SPOOKY FUN!

At Movie Magic USA, we love classic horror. As Halloween slowly creeps upon us, we thought it would be fun to highlight our top three fantasy films, all from the legendary HAMMER STUDIOS.

CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1957) - This landmark film began the cycle of horror from Britain's Hammer Studios. This film and many of their other fantasy films are now considered classics. Peter Cushing has the title role as Baron Frankenstein, insane creator of man. His portrayal is so profound that he went on to play the Baron in five sequels and is the definitive Baron Frankenstein to generations of horror fans. Christopher Lee brings an amazing depth to the character of the creature, in a performance matched only by Boris Karloff in the classic Universal film. For fans of classic horror, this one is a must for the collection.
HORROR OF DRACULA (1958) - Hammer took advantage of the incredible success of Frankenstein by bringing Dracula to the screen in 1958. This film is quite simply the definitive Dracula film, and Christopher Lee's portrayal of the evil Count is without equal. Peter Cushing is also most impressive as vampire hunter Dr. Van Helsing. Incredibly successful at the box office, this film is regarded by many as Hammer's best. Sir Christopher Lee would go on to appear as Dracula in six sequels, and the Hammer series of horror classics would prove to be a springboard to success for him, as he continues to act in films to this day, well into his eighties.
THE MUMMY (1959) - Hammer was not about to let their new-found success be wasted, so they followed Dracula with yet another remake of a classic horror film. Once again, the two new titans of terror Lee and Cushing sent chills down the spines of movie-goers, with Lee as the creature and Cushing as John Banning, the scientist who discovers the Mummy. Hammer's version proved to be superior in many ways to what was done before and after it.

These three Hammer classics changed fantastic cinema forever and remain definitively the best ever made, setting a high standard for fantasy films that followed. Lee and Cushing are magic on the screen together, forming a professional partnership and personal friendship that would last until Cushing's death in 1994.
