LP Records:

This item should be considered used and opened and is offered on an "as-is, no return" basis.  As with any used, opened item it may contain flaws in playing or in the cover, case, sleeves, box, inserts, etc. compared to a new item.

Since recording quality and performance of records varies, Seller does not make any statement of playing quality.  Seller does not test or play item to evaluate playing condition and handles them as little as possible to preserve inherent quality.  Seller may visually inspect the platter(s), sleeve(s), cases, boxes, etc.  Seller does not guarantee that this LP will be free of skips.

Seller's rating and condition information is made on a good faith basis and represents the subjective opinion of the seller only and presents details that may affect the overall value of the item.  Ratings represent a combination of the parts of the item viewed as an average.  Ratings are presented in an overall 1 - 5 format [with no pluses or minuses] with 1 being the highest rating as follows:

  • 1 - minimal flaws, clean, unused or played infrequently, excellent condition overall
  • 2 - minor flaws only, unused or played infrequently, very good condition overall
  • 3 - may contain major and minor flaws, unused or played infrequently, good condition overall
  • 4 - may contain major and minor flaws, played frequently, fair condition overall
  • 5 - major flaws throughout, poor condition overall

Seller does offer items with a 4 or 5 rating because of historical or inherent value and/or cover graphics rather than for playing the recording.

Please refer to the particular listing for unusual condition issues for this item, if any.  The item has not been independently evaluated.

Vinyl is making a comeback, how about that!

If you're looking for all-original, specialty & audiophile LPs from the 60's, 70's & 80's you've come to the right place!

Musicmaker Collectibles offers Vintage LP recordings to musicians, audiophiles, audio/sound professionals & historians.

We list the very best and most interesting items, drawn from a huge personal recording collection from many years of collecting jazz, rock, pop and classical LPs.  Many have never been played and all have received exceptional care over the years.  You will find items that are difficult to obtain in comparable condition and almost all are long out-of-print.  Many of the selections feature collectible covers or may contain posters, cards or inserts that are rare and collectible.

Vintage LP selections appeal to professional musicians, recording engineers, studio professionals, music historians, LP audiophile collectors, graphics cover art collectors and other avid LP collectors.  These collectors possess high-end equipment to make the most of these recordings.  Many value and appreciate the inherent value of the item as cover art and/or the historical significance of the underlying recording or the limited distribution of a particular item.

A note on vintage LPs:  Many used vinyl recordings out there have not been treated well and may not be really playable.  Unfortunately, for many records held out as first quality, their usefulness may have already been used up.  Such items that have been used so much and treated so poorly are of very little value for the collector in most cases.  The items presented here on auction were gently used, were well cared for and have been conservatively and fairly evaluated for your consideration.  We know you will be pleased.

Great care has been taken to select items that are interesting and the listings highlight items with any technical information available.  Rarely are any new, sealed or recently produced items on auction and most have been played infrequently or are unplayed.  None of the LPs have been used commercially.

From time to time you will find audiophile LP recordings on auction that were remastered and were cut on superior vinyl starting around 1980, e.g. Mobile Fidelity [MFSL].  These audiophile LPs are universally recognized to be sonically superior to "regular" LPs across the board with wider dynamic range, quieter playback and increased durability.  These master recordings and half-speed masters are the top of the heap as far as vintage audiophile recordings are concerned.

Unfortunately, the advent of CDs in the early 1980s started the demise of audiophile vinyl with CDs representing a new definitive step forward in audio reproduction.  In spite of this, there are many audiophiles who feel that premium vinyl recordings played on the right equipment are smoother and richer in sound than CDs.  We think so, but you'll have to reach your own conclusions.
