Q. How many kinds of butterflies are in our world? A. There are 160,000 identified Lepidoptera in the world with 90% of them being moths! There are only about 14,000 identified butterflies.
Q. Is the butterfly/insect in the picture the one that I will receive? A. YES, WHAT YOU SEE, IS WHAT YOU GET!! We take individual photos of each and every butterfly, moth, and insect. It is important that you have the opportunity to examine each specimen before you make your purchase. When selling multiples of the same butterfly, it will be noted in the listing. Take advantage of the zoom in feature to get a great close up picture of the butterfly.
Q. What kind of framing do you offer? A. At MyFlutterBuy Butterflies you get the best of both worlds; as we offer quality riker framing, beautiful wood shadow box framing, and double-sided glass frames. Most of the shadow box frames come gift boxed. If you would like to change the framing from what is shown, please notify us in advance. There is an additional cost of upgrading from riker frames to the shadow boxes.
Q. Where do you get your butterflies from? A. My butterflies originate from tropical butterfly farms located around the world. In an effort to sustain rainforests and to provide incomes to local communities, butterfly farming has become an important industry. Many organizations are now teaching people how to raise butterflies for ecological and economical purposes. This brings hope to end the destruction of rainforests from logging and the slash and burn agricultural farming practices. Butterfly farming ensures survival of natural populations by reducing poaching, protecting habitat for other plants and animals, and providing an income to third world populations.
Q. How long does a butterfly live? A. Most generally, an average butterfly will live about 7 days in the wild and approximately 2 weeks within an aviary. There are exceptions to the rule. Ex. The monarch live about 10 months.
