I am in love with the old antique glass of 100 years ago and older!
Why? It is because of the romance of the glass! Yes, there is Romance in the old glass that our Great-Great Grandmothers may have had in their homes!
When you see a piece of glass that was made during the 1800's, just think about where it has been and what it was to the original owners! Did it come in a hope chest to a young girl of 16 who was getting married? Was it the only "sparkling" item in her existence? What real price did she place on it? Imagine living in a house without electricity, cooking on an open fire in the fireplace. Having only pewter or tin plates to eat from. But the one beautiful thing that the sun hit just right in the window was that sparkling piece of glass! How treasured it had to be to the family who owned it! |

Back in the late 1800's there weren't toothbrushes. It was just a split of wood that was used to clean the teeth. The toothpick holder was a very special item which was sitting on each table. The family then got their toothpick and worked on their teeth after eating. Thousands of patterns were made and these holders were another bright point in an otherwise drab existence. | |

The amazing thing about old Antique Glass is it is still so inexpensive today! You can buy a piece of 100+ year old glass for less than you can buy a new piece! And at the same time you are helping preserve a piece of American History!
Some people look unfavorably upon some of the EAPG collectors as it seems they aren't forthcoming about the histories and pattern names of their glass. But don't let that keep you from buying just a few pieces of early glass! Every home should have a few pieces. There is no other real antique in this price range than old antique glass. Even if you like really modern glass, and have a modern home, there is an antique glass pattern that will fit into your decor.
