"We had outstanding success with the sale of our house. In fact, I've been writing an e-book for other eBayers to replicate our promotional process. Because of a 3-dog family and from-home careers, having potential buyers drop by to view our house for an extended period of time was not a viable option for us. I have a feeling most others would agree.... Following 2 weeks of strategic flyering and newspaper ads, we received over 500 phone calls asking about the house. During these phone calls we explained that 1) We were using eBay to sell the house 2) That the open house was ONLY between 9 and 6 on the weekend before the auction ended 3) When you come to see us, look for the eBay sign out front. Following that set-up, I got their email address to send the house description, auction details and directions.... We did not put the sign up UNTIL the morning of the open house. Throughout the week, we built an anticipated buzz in the neighborhood because there had been so many cars slowing down in front of our house or groups of people standing and staring on the sidewalk. At 9 am Saturday morning, we used the eBay sign as our "Open House is Open" indication. At the 18 hour open house, our townhouse was viewed by over 200 interested parties. The sign strip with the auction id and ending time was placed prominently on the mantle in the main room. With little else in the room, it was a great visual reminder as everyone entered and departed. When anyone asked, we could easily refer to it for either the end time or item number.... We received nearly a hundred bids before the auction ended on Tuesday night -- nearly $75,000 over our opening bid. I've worked in professional advertising for years and know "Appearance is Everything." I used the sign components separately -- more as professional selling tools at different parts of my sale process.
