General Motors is the world’s second largest auto manufacturer, and the maker of some of the most iconic vehicles in American history. GM was established in 1908 in Flint, Michigan, and has long been known as one of the “Big Three” American automakers. Classics like the Cadillac Town Car and Oldsmobile 8 convertible established GM’s influence in the early part of the twentieth century.
Now in the 21st century, General Motors actively manufactures a number of brands that are popular both in the United States and across the global market. The following GM brands are available at Parkway Motorcars Direct, serving Southern California.

Cadillac, one of GM’s first successes, is still a strong line of luxury vehicles. The commitment to prestigious, high-quality four-door sedans remains intact with the 2009 Cadillac CTS, DTS, STS V6, STS V8, and STS-V. The XLR and XLR-V take the classic Cadillac prowess and interpret it as a sophisticated and sporty convertible. Then there is the Escalade series, Cadillac’s contribution to high-end sport utility vehicles. This includes the Escalade as well as the Escalade ESV, Escalade Hybrid, and Escalade EXT. Rounding out the line is the SRX Crossover, which comes in V6 and V8 models.

The Pontiac brand dates back to 1926 and is known for mainstream performance and athleticism. The 2009 Pontiac G5 and G6 Coupe embody the affordability and performance for which the Pontiac line is known, while the G6 Sedan and G8 offer a sleek four-door alternative. The Pontiac G6 Convertible is a classically styled hardtop, while the Solstice is a younger, sportier convertible. The Pontiac Vibe and Torrent bring Pontiac performance to the crossover/wagon segment.

General Motors also includes Buick. Also dating back to the early 20th century, Buick is known for entry-level luxury vehicles. For 2009, Buick is manufacturing two four-door sedans and a crossover SUV. The Buick LaCrosse is a midsize sedan that was introduced in 2004, while the Buick Lucerne is a full-size sedan. The Buick Enclave, introduced in 2007, is a full-size crossover SUV.

The GM lineup also extends to larger, more capable vehicles, sold under the GMC brand. Known for their space, storage capacity, and performance, GMC’s SUVs, pickup trucks, crossovers, and vans are used both personally and commercially. GMC was first known for its trucks, which include the Sierra 1500, 2500HD, and 3500HD, as well as the Sierra Hybrid, Sierra Denali, and GMC Canyon. and 2009’s SUVs include the Envoy, Envoy Denali, Yukon, Yukon XL (Yukon XL 1/2-Ton and 3/4 –Ton), as well as the Yukon Denali, Yukon Hybrid, and Yukon XL Denali. GMC Also makes a crossover SUV called the GMC Acadia. GMC’s full-size van is called the Savana. The 2009 Savana Cargo comes in 1500, 2500, and 3500 models, and the Savana Passenger van is available in 1500, 2500, and 3500 models as well.

Hummer is one of GMC’s most popular, notable, and innovative vehicles. Based on the Humvees that Hummer produced for the US Military, civilian Hummers have been in production since 1992. That original H1 is no longer in production. Today’s Hummer line includes the Hummer H2 SUT and H2 SUV, as well as the Hummer H3 and H3T.

Chevrolet, or Chevy, is GM’s most popular and best-selling division. Chevy’s history dates all the way back to 1910, and throughout the 20th century and into the 21st, Chevy has manufactured some of the most reliable and popular vehicles on the market.
Chevy’s current lineup includes 17 different models, mostly cars, SUVs, and crossovers, with three popular pickup trucks and one large van. Most recently, the Chevy Cobalt XFE has gotten attention as a highly fuel efficient vehicle with a competitive sticker price. Also competitive for fuel efficiency is the Aveo5 and Aveo Sedan, both of which are popular subcompact vehicles. The Chevy Corvette is one of Chevrolet’s most iconic cars, but has recently shared its popularity with the Malibu and Impala.
Chevrolet has three crossover SUVs, three standard SUVs, and three pickup trucks. The crossovers are the HHR (a stylish, compact station wagon), Equinox (mid-size crossover), and Tranverse (full size crossover). Chevy’s three standard SUVs include the Trailblazer (midsize), Suburban (large SUV), and Tahoe (full size SUV). The three pickup trucks are the Colorado (a mid-size pickup), Silverado (full-size, and one of the top-selling trucks in the country), and Avalanche (a full size sport-utility truck introduced in 2001). The Chevy line is rounded out by the Chevrolet Express, a full size van frequently used for commercial purposes.
