| Perfect Frame is proud to announce a new service for its customers. We now have a conservator for any of our customers in need of restoration, cleaning, de-acidification, flattening, sun damage repair, humidification, and other work for items like:-Historical Documents
-Lithographs
-Manuscripts
-Graphite Drawings
-Engravings & Etchings
-Pen & Ink Artwork
-And any other important documents!
We recently restored Civil War Era Discharge Papers for one of our customers.
This document dates back to February 9th, 1865! It came to us in fairly good condition considering its age. However, it had many cracks, splits, curling areas and it was drying-out and separating from its original linen backing. Once taken under the care of our conservator, this piece went under extensive repairs including:
-De-acidification
-Filling of cracks
-Flattening
-Humidification
-Fungus Removal
-Cleaning
The document was separated from the linen backing and the adhesive (which was deteriorating the document) was removed. The linen was replaced with a 100% cotton fiber paper much like the Rag Mat® matboards we use for archival framing.
It was then assembled with Artcare Foamcore Backing, acid-free matting, behind Conservation Clear Glass, and framed with one of our Prague line of frames from Larson-Juhl.
