In order to keep your Pfaltzgraff in top shape, there are a few suggestions & guidelines that Pfaltzgraff Recommends:
1. Do not subject your stoneware to sudden or extreme temperature changes. Start your oven at a low\ temperature for the first 10 minutes, then increase to desired temperature. We have been told that most pottery is not recommended past 350 degrees to avoid crazing.
2. It is recommended to clean coffee and tea cups soon after use so that stains do not occur. If they should occur, a solution of 50% liquid bleach and 50% water can be added to the cup and should remove any stains.
3. Do not place hot dishes on a wet surface or handle with a wet cloth. The hot dish may break when touching the colder water. In addition, hot dishes should be placed on a hot plate, tablecloth, or trivet, to protect your table & linens.
4. Do not place stoneware on direct heat (stovetop), in the broiler, or under a microwave browning element.
5. Always use a padded, dry oven mitt when removing from stoneware from oven or microwave. The stoneware absorbs and maintains heat.
6. When warming in microwave, use the stoneware piece that best fits the portion size. By doing so, all items will heat evenly and not cause "hot spots" in your stoneware that could lead to crazing, cracking or even breakage.
7. Pfaltzgraff offers a cleaner that removes most flatware marks on your everyday pieces. It is not recommended to use abrasive cleaners on your pottery.
8. For tough food removal, it is not recommended to "soak" the dishes. A little warm water and mild detergent should be placed directly in the dish, and then be allowed to sit for a while. "Soaking" the dishes the sink allows water to penetrate and be absorbed by the unglazed part of the underside of some pieces, and could cause the dish to crack or break when heated.
9. Handpainted glass accent pieces, and some of the beverage glassware, should be hand washed only. Dishwasher use could cause the paint to flake or wear off.
10. Do not use chipped or cracked glassware items.
