The Truth About Vintage Clothing Sizes

Did you know sizes today do not match sizes that were lovingly worn in the past?

Sizes of modern/contemporary items of today can vary from Designer to Designer and Name Brand to Name Brand.

At Pink Hill Vintage we measure the total garment while lying flat.

We do this because a Medium from the 60's may fit like a Small today or a Hollister small may fit like an American Eagle X-Small.  Another example is a 1950's size 14 will not be the same as an 80's size 14.

We hope the information and tips below will assist you in getting the perfect fit no matter where you make your purchase online.

Measuring Your Garments to Get a Good Fit

~ Use the photo as a guide to measure and compare the fit of your favorite garments... make sure you compare and ensure a great fit.  It won't matter what size you are or how you like your garments to fit,  if your Shirt, Dress, Suit or Boots etc. match our measurements it'll be a fit!
~ Even when a Size Tag is available we want you to know that we will still provide measurements even on NEW clothing.

~ All garments are measured seam to seam. Chest, Bust, Waist & Hips are multiplied by two (2).

~ Example: When a garment is laid flat, we measure seam to seam, so... if the waist measures 15 inches, we double that measurement and list it as 30 inches. This saves you time from having to multiply it yourself.
~
Sleeves, Shoulders, Length, side seam, Inseams, and rises on pants/jeans are measured with no multiplier.

Adult clothing listings will always include a set of measurements.  All garments are laid flat and measured using a seamstress tape measure for accuracy, to within 1/2 inch.  My goal is to enable you to make wise purchase decisions, with no surprises upon delivery!

If I happen to list a garment with flaws, it is only because they   were overlooked when purchased. If I list it, I feel the garment is exceptional and worth its value, and will be priced accordingly.  Any flaws will be described and pictured, but will not detract from the wearability or beauty of the garment.

 How Measurements are Taken

Shoulder: Top of garment, shoulder seam to shoulder seam on garments with shoulder seams. It is estimated for those that don't have it, such as dolman-sleeved tops.

Chest or Bust: Underarm to underarm, then doubled.

Waist: Natural waistline or about 7 inches from underarm, then doubled.

Hips: About 8 inches from natural waistline or about 14 inches from underarm, then doubled.

Length: Middle back of neck seam, excluding collar, to hem. For garments without full backs, the measurement is taken from the highest part of the shoulder. If it has no shoulder sleeves, then I will measure from the underarm down the side to the hem.

Skirt or pants length: Waist to hem, down side seam.

Inseam: crotch to hem.

Sleeve length: Shoulder seam to hem of sleeve. For garments without a defined shoulder seam, it will be from the neck seam to the hem of sleeve. This will be noted in the listing.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to ask.
