Helpful
hints for eBay Apparel Shopping:
Our store,
Real Women Want, carries 2 different ranges of plus size clothing. To
be sure you get an item that fits well, there are several things to consider.
Hopefully this little guide will help.
Juniors
Plus clothing is the type of clothing you will find in the juniors section
of most department stores. They styles are very trendy, often sexy, but
a word of caution, they are cut for the curvacious teen or young woman
and are not sized for the typical Woman's Plus category. Depending on
the measurements (which we always list) - they will fit a Woman's plus
size up to a size 16/18 but rarely over that. It is very important to
know your measurements when considering the purchase of a Juniors Plus
item. We always note this in the title or description.
As for
Women's Plus Size clothing - it seems each manufacturer follows its own
size chart. The variances are amazing. To help out, we measure the garment
carefully, and often make a recommendation for the size range that an
item will fit based on typical True Plus Size clothing charts used by
the more recognizable plus size apparel chains. This can be used as a
guideline, but we fully recommend you know your body measurements and
your favorite measurements for your clothing.
Its really
easy! (promise!) all you need is a tape measure!
1.) Measure
around your back and over the fullest part of your bust wearing your favorite
bra or undergarment. Add 2-3" to this measurement for movement and
that is what you want your garment to measure. (Example - you measure
50" around look for tops with a bust measurement of 52"-54"
depending on how loose you want the fit).
2.) Measure
your natural waist and then your hip area accross the widest part of your
seat. If you are purchasing a top, you would add a few inches to this
for movement and comfort. If you are considering pants or jeans, notice
if the item has stretch and think about how you want them to fit. For
snug fit, order a size close to your measurements. If you prefer a looser
fit, add an inch or two.
3.) For
pants rise or inseam it is easiest just to take a pair of your favorite
pants and measure them. Then shop for items with similar measurements.
For the rise, measure from the center crotch seam to the top of waistband
in front. For the inseam, measure from the center crotch seam to the pants
leg hem. This is important so you do not buy pants that drag on the floor
or look like floods. :)
