This editorial is now somewhat dated, since this was written, ebay has gone on to make many boneheaded moves, placing restrictions on sellers, and dictating payment methods, shipping costs, and other interventions. Well, folks, here we go again, Remember back in April 23rd 1985: Coca Cola introduces New Coke, the greatest marketing disaster of all time? Well the management types at Ebay are probably not quite that clueless...and the latest round of fee changes are most likely NOT the greatest marketing disaster of all times, still one has to wonder what were these guys thinking?
Heres the deal as I see it. For some unknown reason, Ebay has decided that the buyers experience has been diluted by Ebay Stores such as this one. They have decided that a buyer (like you maybe) coming to an Ebay Store like mine, searching for, finding and eventually buying the item they need is somehow a totally unpleasant experience. To recreate the fun of ebay, thousands of store sellers are being pressured to forsake our STORE listings and use the more costly and mostly ineffective (for my items anyway) short term AUCTION listings. This pressure has taken the form of an obscene fee increase.
To further add insult to injury, admission by ebay that the growth of the stores has been "troubling" for them! Troubling? All the work I, and other sellers have done to promote our stores. To promote shopping on Ebay. To keep our stores crisp, well stocked and maintained. Troubling?

Hey, all I want to do here is sell my tires, give folks a reasonable deal, and maybe have some fun. I have no problem with a reasonable fee hike. But please don't move the goal posts in the middle of the game.
