Who was Saint Eligius?
Eligius was born around 590 in France. He was an extremely skilled metalworker and King Clotaire II of Paris appointed him master of the mint. He eventually became a Bishop, and was known for his tremendous generosity to the poor. He died on December 1, around 660, and is the patron of goldsmiths, blacksmiths, all metal workers, and numismatists.
