What Is the Best Shaver?*
Well, no matter what the manufacturers say, there really is no answer to this question. Personal preference is the driving factor in the answer to that question. There are two basic designs of shavers: rotary, such as Norelco; and foil, such as Braun & Panasonic. Many people feel that they prefer one type or the other. This is for you to decide.
The most popular brand is Norelco, also called Philips or Philishave. They come in a wide variety of models but are generally takeoffs of the same original design. They have, usually three, rotary spinning blades and are considered more versatile for cutting one days beard or if you skip a day or two. Remington also makes some rotary models as well as Axis.
Braun is the world's best selling foil shaver. Braun offers a few different head types which can make quite a difference in your shave. As a rule, the cheaper shavers head types don't shave as close or quickly as the more expensive head types. Panasonic, Wahl, Eltron, Grundig, Axis and Remington also offer a variety of foil shavers at all different prices.
Batteries
Some shavers have one internal battery and some have two. Because two batteries give more power and have a higher charge holding capacity, we reccommend a shaver with two batteries. So, how can you tell which shavers have one battery and which have two? You don't. Unless you ask someone who is very familiar with these products. The packaging that the shavers come in do not mention anything about this important information. We can assist you with finding out how many batteries a particular shaver has.
Our Recommendations
As of late, we are very impressed with the quality of Panasonic products. They offer as good of a value as any of the other major brands and have less problems as a whole than most other brands. Norelco is still the best quality rotary shaver, although their qualilty is not as good as it used to be. A new brand called Axis is also looking very good. They are available in a varity of models.
We Suggest:
If you have a shaver that you like, you should keep it. If it needs new heads or batteries, fix it. So many people are disappointed when they buy a new shaver even if it is the same brand as their old one. The overall quality is not usually as good as the older ones and you are already used to the old one too. If you need to replace an old shaver that you liked, buy one as similar to it as possible.
Stay Away From:
Shavers with no name brand. Although some "no name" shavers are decent, most are not. There are several shavers that look like Norelco. Bell & Howell, American Tourister, Harbor Freight and others offer these poor quality knock-offs that most feel are inferior in quality and closeness. There are also a variety of foil shavers that fall into this copy cat catagory also.
Buy Factory Serviced Units
Why? Because they are an excellent value for what is essentially the same shaver the items not marked factory serviced or refurbished. They are offered this way directly from the manufacturer and offer manufacturer waranty.
